Banyana Banyana midfielder awarded University of Free State Sports Woman of the year

Banyana Banyana midfielder, Gabisile Hlumbane has been awarded top honour at the University of Free State for her outstanding performance on the football field throughout the year.

Hlumbane, also known as "china" by her Banyana Banyana team mates, plays for Sasol League club Kovsies.

She received the Sports Woman of the year award at the University's Sports awards ceremony.

"This honour has been a great success for the Banyana Banyana player as an individual and would contribute greatly to the success of the national team as part of their preparations for the 2012 London Olympics," said Mkhonza.

Banyana Banyana head coach, Joseph Mkhonza has hailed the player's achievement outside of National team duty and says it would contribute immensely towards preparations for the 2012 London Olympic Games.

"I would like to congratulate Gabisile and Kylie jointly for scooping awards at their respective institutes recently. It is a great achievement for the Banyana Banyana as both Gabisile and Kylie are highly recognised players within the national team. I hope their achievements will motivate other players in the squad, and give the entire team a boost as we plan towards the 2012 London Olympic Games," added Mkhonza.
