The Senior Women’s Team of Cameroon, otherwise known as the Indomitable Lionesses, flew into Abuja on Thursday afternoon for Saturday’s London 2012 Olympic Games qualifying match against Nigeria’s Super Falcons.
The 28-man team arrived in Lagos just after midnight and was flown to Abuja in the afternoon. The team is staying at the Chida Hotel.
Officials for Saturday’s cracker, which is the first of a two-leg final qualifying fixture for next year’s Summer Olympic’s Women’s Football Tournament, have also been flown into Abuja. The match commissioner is Mrs Anastasia Tsichlas from South Africa, while the referees are all from Uganda.
Cameroon has pleaded for the second leg of the tie to be pushed to October as the Lionesses will take part in next month’s All-Africa Games Women’s Football Tournament. The return by in Yaounde will now take place on October 22, 2011 with the winner qualifying to be one of Africa’s two flag-bearers in London next year.
The Falcons have been training in the Federal Capital for the past three weeks and Head Coach Eucharia Uche presently has 28 players in camp. Saturday’s match starts at 4pm.
