Coach of Super Falcons, Eucharia Uche has defended the team list submitted by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), to FIFA for the Women’s World Cup coming up in Germany after fans from all circles voiced their displeasure about the omission of striker Cynthia Uwak's name from the squad list.
The NFF early this week submitted a list of 21 Super Falcons players who will fly the country’s flag at the 6th FIFA Women’s World Cup finals taking place in Germany this summer. Goalkeeper Precious Dede, a veteran from the 2003 and 2007 FIFA World Cup finals top the list that includes at least seven players who have seen FIFA World Cup action. The list includes defenders Faith Ikidi, Onome Ebi and Ulunma Jerome; midfielders Ogonna Chukwudi and Perpetua Nkwocha and forward Stella Mbachu who were at the last tournament in China in 2007.
Other players in the list are, Tochukwu Oluehi, Alaba Jonathan, Rebecca Kalu, Glory Iroka, Rita Chikwelu, Ebere Orji, Francisca Ordega, Desire Oparanozie, Sarah Michael, Uchechi Sunday, and Amenze Aighewi Coach Uche noted that the technical crew selected the players based on their current form and ability to put up a good performance at the world cup. She was optimistic that the team will move away from being a continental power house and also runs to being one of the best teams and serious title contenders at the forth coming world cup, with a promise that they will not disappoint Nigerians when hostilities begins in Germany.
Since setting up camp in Saalfelden, the Falcons have walloped an Austrian first division team, Wacker Innsbruck 7-0, pipped the Czech Republic national women’s team 1-0 and drew 1-1 with the national women’s team of Austria in friendlies and drew 2-2 with Switzerland
wow, it is amazing but i know that from time coach uche never liked cynthia. i really don't know what their difference are but she is never happy about the fact that a non igbo is recognized in female football both in Africa and in Nigeria. I know that am saying cos i know players who played under her at the national level. I wish her and all the players the best, make our nation proud, we are praying for all of you.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,I hope Coach Uche's actions are not fueled by tribal differences. As a coach she reserves the right to select the best and in-form players to represent Nigeria.Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope Nigeria does Africa proud.
