Zambia is the latest country to confirm their participation for the 2011 COSAFA Women’s Championship that will be held in Zimbabwe from July 2-9.
The Zambians are the seventh country to announce they will be taking part, along with hosts Zimbabwe, defending champions South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi and Mozambique.
It was hoped that Reunion and Tanzania would put their names into the draw before the cut-off date on Wednesday, June 22.
East African side Tanzania have been invited as special guests for the regional showpiece.
The tournament will be played at two venues in Harare, with the draw set to take place once the final field has been confirmed.
The teams will be split into two groups at the tournament, and will play each other in a round-robin format, with the top two sides in each pool advancing to the semi-finals.
The winners in the knockout stages will compete in the final for the trophy, while the losers will play for bronze in a third-place play-off.
The first COSAFA Women’s Championship was held in Zimbabwe in 2002 and was won by South Africa, who beat their hosts 2-1 in the final.
Four years later and the South Africans triumphed again at the finals in Zambia, when they beat Namibia 3-1 in the decider.
South Africa made it three in a row when they beat Zimbabwe in the finals of the 2008 tournament in Malange, Angola.
