Nigeria  lost their second consecutive match at the FIFA Under Women’s World Cup,losing 2-1 in the third place match to Japan.
The Falconets started very poorly in the first half, losing the game courtesy of goals in each half,by the host country.
Yoko Tanaka opened the scores for Japan in the first 45 minutes to get her sixth of the competition, with Asuka Nishikawa making it two on the 50th minute.

Desire Oparanozie pulled one back for Nigeria in the 73rd minute through a free-kick scoring her third of the tournament, which started a late onslaught for the Falconets, but it was too late as Japan saw the game through.
Nigeria dominated from then on,but it could not translate to more goals with Japan, bouyed by their supporters, made sure they disappointed Nigeria to clinch the last medal on offer at the competition.

Coach Edwin Okon’s team will take solace in the fact that, they made a second successive semi-finals appearance at the Under 20 Women’s World Cup.

Nigeria came second at the last World Cup,losing out to Germany in the finals, but could only finish fourth this time around. USA beat tournament favorites Germany by  a lone goal to be crowned the 2012 FIFA Women's U20 Champions.
