Coaches Jostle for Falcons' Job

Nigeria Football Federation technical committee has received an avalanche of applications from prospective candidates vying for the vacant position of the national women's team coach.

On Monday, the committee will meet to conisider applications from coaches who are jostling for the female national job. The list of applicants, include former internationals such as Mercy Akide, Florence Omagbemi who openly declared their readiness to take over from Eucharia Uche.

Also hunting for the job are former male coaches of the Falcons Ronaldson Odeh and ex-international Emeka Ezeugo.

It was gathered that the NFF will also name assistants for the women Under-17 and Under-20 teams.

The Falcons surrendered their right to represent Africa for the London 2012 Olympics, after they were dismissed by Cameroon. The NFF declined to offer Uche a new contract. She was the first woman to coach the women team and also the first African woman to win the Africa Women Championship.

She also led the Falcons to win their first match in the FIFA Women World Cup, but her winning charm failed her during the Olympic and All Africa Games qualifiers.
