Cerezo Queens Gain Promotion Into Elite Female League


lorin based female club side Cerezo Queens have gained promotion into the elite female league in Nigeria.

The preliminary games which were played at the Lafia Township Stadium in Nasarawa State last weekend saw the team tutored by Coach Charles Duku, defeat both Shettima Queens of Abuja by 3-0 and Apa Queens of Otukpo by a lone goal to progress with six points.

After the victory, club chairman, Mr. Augustus Ikenwa said, "I am elated that, just after two years of founding the club in memory of late Mrs. Oluwatosin Onwuemegie-Ikenwa, we are now in the A league in the country. The girls have been very wonderful and we hope to keep them in good shape ahead of the forthcoming female Federation Cup and the new female league season," he said.

On her part, the club's Brand Manager, Olanrewaju Coker heaped praises on their shirt sponsor, Silverbird Group, led by Mr. Roy Murray-Bruce. She thanked the group for its unflinching support even as she expressed joy over the team's qualification.Cerezo Queens will commence its Federation Cup at the Lafia Township Stadium on September 14.
