AAG News-Cameroon Beats Ghana To Claim Gold Medal

The All Africa Games women soccer favorites, Ghana, hit a brick wall when they played against a robust Cameroonian team at the Estadio Nacional in Maputo. With the Ghanaians looking more like the dominant side, they pressed for early goals with beautifully strung passes with pin point accuracy but their efforts failed to pay off as the resolute Cameroonian defense  will not cave in under pressure.

The game became a ding-dong battle with both sides probing for goals but the first half ended with no goals to either sides. Back from the break, Cameroon capitalized on their size advantage over the Ghanaians by winning all aerial and ground tussles and on the 56th minute mark, striker Ngono powered home with a header to put the Lionesses ahead by 1-0.

Ghana stretched every sinew for an equalizer but the day belonged to the Cameroonians. The game ended with a disappointed Ghanaian team still wondering what had hit them. Cameroon won the gold medal whiles the much fancied Ghanaians settled with a silver medal with Algeria taking the bronze after beating South Africa by 3 goals to 0 in the third place play-off yesterday.
