WHERE DID OUR SALARIES  MONEY GO ?
Controversy is brewing over the alleged diversion of 1.2million naira being part of the May salary of the Bayelsa Queens Football Club of Nigeria by the immediate past state Commissioner for Sports and Social Development, Opukere Jone-Ere. National Mirror learnt yesterday that the former commissioner had directed a female staff in the ministry to deduct the N1.2m from the football club’s salary, 24 hours after Governor Timipre Sylva dissolved the state executive council on June 2.

It was also learnt that total monthly salary for the management, players and coaches of the female football club is valued at N4, 360, 000. The former commissioner has, however, been advised to return the money to ensure the full payment of the club’s salary. It was gathered that Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Igrinan Johnson, and other staff of the ministry were not comfortable with the deduction, even as the commissioner had been removed from office. Accountant of the Bayelsa Queens had usually signed the monthly salary, but the ex-commissioner had allegedly connived with the said female staff in the ministry to divert the sum.

The former commissioner was also said to have nominated the female staff to the yet to be inaugurated board of the female football club. Meanwhile, the Sole Administrator of Bayelsa Queens, Bunas Ironsi, has expressed surprise that a sacked commissioner could give a directive for the payment of salaries.

NAMIBIA
SHIPANGA APPOINTED TO FIFA WOMEN'S WORLD CUP TECHNICAL STUDY GROUP

NAMIBIA’s national women’s football coach Jacqueline Shipanga has been appointed by Fifa as member of the technical study group at this year’s Women’s World Cup, taking place in Germany from June 26 until July 17.

As associate of Fifa’s expert panel, her main task during the tournament will be the monitoring and analysis of participating teams at matches and training sessions as well as thorough discussions and the exchange of information with players and coaches off the field. It is Fifa’s aim to detect current trends in the football game and to initiate discussions on controversial issues such as the “passive offside”.

After the tournament, a final report on the technical study group’s conclusions and recommendations will be made available to national associations to enable them to improve their team’s playing techniques.

“Shipanga’s appointment by Fifa comes as a pleasant surprise since she was trained as football coach under the German football programme ‘Deutsches Fußball Projekt Namibia’,” reads a statement from the German Embassy.
The initiative was organised by the German Olympic Sport Federation (DOSB) in close cooperation with the German Football Association (DFB) and financed by the Federal Foreign Office.
